The closure, originally implemented for essential Scottish Power operations, has been a source of significant delays for drivers in Warrington. Motorists commuting during peak hours have been enduring lengthy queues due to the reduction of the usually two-lane carriageway to a single lane near the Halliwell Jones BMW garage. This bottleneck situation is located on the southbound stretch between Ireland Street and Bluecoat Street.
In a recent update, Warrington Borough Council announced that the lane closure will now remain in place until January 21, a week longer than initially planned. The council spokesperson attributed this extension to the ongoing nature of Scottish Power's essential remedial work, which requires round-the-clock lane closure.
But here's where it gets controversial: while the council takes advantage of the situation to advance their kerbing works, commuters are left fuming. Many are questioning the timing and coordination of these works, especially given the road's significance as a major commuter route.
