Air defense just got a major upgrade! The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has just wrapped up the User Evaluation Trials for the Next Generation Akash missile, or Akash-NG, and the results are impressive. This is a big deal for India's defense capabilities.
The trials, which concluded on December 24, 2025, saw the Akash-NG missiles successfully taking down aerial targets across a variety of scenarios. We're talking different ranges and altitudes, including challenging situations like near-boundary-low-altitude and long-range, high-altitude interceptions. Think of it like this: the Akash-NG can hit targets flying low to the ground or way up high, and everything in between!
But what makes the Akash-NG so special? This system is designed to protect against various aerial threats. It's equipped with an indigenous Radio Frequency seeker, which helps it find and lock onto targets, and it's powered by a solid rocket motor for speed and power.
And this is the part most people miss... The Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the DRDO, the Indian Air Force, and the industry for their work on these successful trials. He highlighted that this advanced missile system will significantly boost the air defense capabilities of the Indian Air Force (IAF). This means our skies are getting a whole lot safer.
