A TV revolution is upon us! The popular TLC channel, once exclusive to paid services, is now available for free on Freeview and Freesat. This exciting development means you can enjoy a wide range of shows without breaking the bank.
TLC, owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, has undergone a significant transformation. While it was previously known for its reality TV series, the channel now boasts a diverse lineup, including popular US sitcoms like The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon, as well as the new spin-off Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage. But here's where it gets controversial... TLC hasn't completely abandoned its roots, as fan-favorite reality shows like 90 Day Fiancé and Dr Pimple Popper still have a place in the TV Guide.
And this is the part most people miss: the biggest shakeup to TLC's lineup is the addition of Mock The Week, a beloved topical panel show that ended its run on BBC Two in 2022. Now, it's getting a fresh start on TLC with a "new-look" version, hosted by the talented Dara Ó Briain. Familiar faces like Sara Pascoe, Hugh Dennis, and Katherine Ryan will grace the show, alongside newer comedians like Ahir Shah and Sarah Keyworth. Classic segments like "If this is the answer, what is the question?" will keep viewers entertained.
Additionally, TLC is bringing us Zero Stars, a travel series where comedians Roisin Conaty and Sara Pascoe explore destinations with the worst reviews. It's a unique take on travel shows, and we can't wait to see what adventures they get up to.
To access this exciting new content, you'll need to tune into Channel 12 on Freeview or Channel 144 on Freesat. If you've missed your favorite show, don't worry; TLC +1 on Channel 99 (Freeview) or Channel 150 (Freesat) has got you covered.
However, with the arrival of TLC, other channels had to make way. Quest has moved from Channel 12 to Channel 17 on Freeview, and Really has taken over HGTV's slot on Channel 44. HGTV, a home improvement channel, closed down after nearly six years as a free service. Warner Bros. Discovery decided to integrate HGTV's property programming into Really, so shows like Celebrity IOU and Home Town now have a new home.
If you're a Freeview user, it's important to retune your device to ensure you don't miss out on any of these changes. Some devices will automatically update, but if you're not seeing the new channels, follow the simple steps below to retune your Freeview Smart TV or set-top box.
How To Retune Freeview:
1. Press the Menu button on your remote.
2. Navigate to Set-Up > Installation > Update.
3. If prompted, enter the default password: "1234" or "0000".
4. Select Full Retune, or look for options like First-Time Installation, Factory Reset, or Default Settings.
5. Hit OK, and your device will take care of the rest.
Your box may ask if you're okay with deleting existing channels as part of the retune process. This is normal, as it needs to wipe the old TV Guide to make way for the new channels.
Freeview is the go-to choice for free TV in the UK, with an impressive 16 million homes relying on its service. So, what are you waiting for? Retune your device and start enjoying the best of TLC, completely free!
